The president of the Association of Albinos in Cameroon Raphaël Kakmeni Wembou, made shattering revelations to the Turkish Anadolu Agency (AA).

"The organs of albinos are sold between 15 and 30 dollars on the black market" (between 8,000 and 17,000 CFA francs), revealed Raphaël Kakmeni Wembou, president of the Albino Associations in Cameroon. He spoke to Turkey's Anadolu News Agency about the difficulties faced by albinos in Cameroon. According to him, albinos are kidnapped by organ traffickers to concoct potions considered medicinal and lucky. This pushes "people with albinism, especially children, to live in fear," he adds.

In addition to the social problems faced by people with albinism, Raphael Kakmeni Wembou also noted that "80% of albinos in sub-Saharan Africa die from skin cancer". As a reminder, the NGO Action on albinism recently reported an attack on albino people. Flaubert Foudji, living in Bafoussam, a region in western Cameroon, was presumed kidnapped after disappearing into traffic. His remains were reportedly found on August 29, 2021, in the same city with several body parts missing.
