This is one of the announcements made by the Minister of Public Works during his appearance before the Finance and Budget Committee of the National Assembly on December 1, 2021.
492,22. This is the number of kilometers of roads that will be built in the country in 2022. The Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, announced it before the Finance and Budget Committee of the National Assembly on December 1, 2021. Defending a total budget of 527 billion CFA francs for the ministry for which it is responsible, this envelope will be used, among other things, for the asphalting of these 499.22 km of roads and 158.93 linear meters of engineering structures as well, as well as the maintenance of 709.68 km of asphalt roads and 738.42 km of dirt road.
According to information gathered from Cameroon Tribune, the Mintp plans to build 1,444 km of roads to connect all localities. "We have a road connectivity program that would like all communities to be connected by roads. It is also a question of opening new sites such as the construction works of the Ring-Road, to continue with the works of Babadjou-Bamenda, to open the construction works of the road Eboloa-Akom 2-Kribi and Bingambo-Grand Zambi. We have 1444 km of roads to build," said Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi at the end of his appearance before the Finance and Budget Committee of the National Assembly. These 1,444 km of linear road will be added to the 133.69 km of asphalt road network already built by the country. The country's asphalt network "will have increased by 9.41% from 8,347.91km in 2020 to 9,133.69km in 2021", explained the minister.
However, of the 121,501 km of roads identified as of 30 September 2020, "only 35% of the national and regional network is in good condition. (…). Indeed, 44% of the network's shelf is covered by active contracts for work that does not run. The reasons are known. Several companies have abandoned the construction sites or studies, others have not even mobilized," acknowledged the Mintp to the National Assembly.
