The Minister of Housing and Urban Development (Minhdu) paid a visit to the construction site of this infrastructure on Monday, December 6, 2021.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development (Minhdu) Célestine Ketcha Courtès multiplies the visits to the construction site of the Yaoundé-Nsimalen highway. The end of the work announced for November 2021 was not respected and since then, it maintains the vagueness on the commissioning of this highway whose construction was started in 2015. After a visit yesterday, December 6, the Minhdu announces a completion rate of 97%. But this time, it did not venture to set a new delivery deadline. In the aftermath, the former mayor of the commune of Bagangté suggested that the infrastructure will be operational during the African Cup of Nations (CAN) football.

"I am reassured that this beautiful infrastructure that the President of the Republic offers to Cameroonians and alongside the major hospital, hotel and sports infrastructures that we have in our country, thanks to the CAN. This highway, the current section was completed for the CHAN; the connection to Ahala remained. You have seen that despite the rains, the construction site is progressing. In conclusion, the Yaoundé-Nsimalen Highway will be opened on the sidelines of the CAN," said the member of the government. According to Célestine Ketcha, during this competition that the country will host, the opening of this infrastructure will allow guests to save 45 minutes, from the airport to the drop-off point.

What remains to be done

During the site visit, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development identified the work to be completed. These are indeed the developments at the Nsimalen Roundabout, the work of the roadway at the 2nd interchange of Mvan and on the connecting ramps of the interchange of Ahala with the national N ° 3, as well as the installation of road signs.

The progress of the work has been slowed down informs the Minhdu, by several factors; in particular the high rainfall recorded in recent months, local populations dissatisfied with the conduct of compensation, the delay in receiving equipment from abroad or the Coronavirus pandemic.
