Cases of cardiovascular events (strokes) are constantly increasing in the country. According to Dr. Aristide Stéphane Abah Abah, noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) "were responsible for 35% of mortality in Cameroon (WHO Cameroon, 2016 with premature mortality around 20% in 2025: Editor's note). Per month, there are an average of 500 new cases of stroke and 800 cases of high blood pressure, according to the practitioner. According to the deputy director of NCDs, 30% of the population of Cameroon, or more than 7 million people suffer from high blood pressure.
