On a mission in the city of Bamenda, the element of the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) died yesterday Saturday, in an explosion.

An improvised explosive device (IED) deposited on the road caused the death of a BIR soldier yesterday, December 18, informs the Cameroonweb website.The events took place in the town of Bamenda in the North-West region where the trooper was on a mission.

This umpteenth bomb attack was claimed by a group of separatist fighters. In recent months, improvised explosive device attacks have become frequent in English-speaking areas. On 13 November, a bomb attack targeted a convoy of Cameroonian security and defence forces in the town of Santa, North-West region, causing the death of three gendarmes and five police officers. A month earlier, separatists simultaneously attacked three military posts in the same area, killing seven soldiers.
