Mbombo Njoya is a calm and level-headed man. But he could not bear the weight of defeat on Saturday. Just after losing clearly to Samuel Eto'o, he took the time to congratulate the winner. The two men worked hand in hand during the three years of the last mandate.

Before the voting operation, the guy from Foumban was convinced that he had "done what was necessary" to secure enough votes. He had also requested and obtained the signature of each of the delegates who gave him their vote.

So it was very difficult to look at each of them and wonder who the ones who voted for the opposite camp are. So, Mr. Mbombo Njoya chose to leave the room, in the middle of the session. He evaded journalists' questions. It was under boos and songs in tribute to the new president that he left. One can clearly imagine his feelings once in the comfort of the voting booth of his service car.
