During the African Wrestling Championships that took place from 17 to 22 May 2022 in Morocco, two athletes offered Cameroon the precious metal.
Joséphine Emilienne Essomé Tiako and Berthe Etane Ngolé won the gold medal at the 37th edition of the African Wrestling Championship. The first competed in the 59 kg category. The Cameroonian wrestler (34) beat Algeria's Rayanne Houfal in the final last Sunday. In the 65kg category, the second wrestler triumphed against Tunisia's Khadija Jlassi.
The two Cameroonian athletes won the gold medal for the first time in their careers. Accustomed to this competition, they have repeatedly won bronze and silver medals.
Recall that the country was represented at this competition by six athletes. Notably Joséphine Emilienne Tiako (59 kg), Berthe Etane Ngolé (65 kg), Blandine Ngiri (68kg), and Rebecca Muambo Ndolo in the women's category. And Cédric Abessolo (86kg), and Cédric Monti (65kg) in the men's category.
