European clubs are worried about their players who will take part in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon. Indeed, the board of directors of the European Club Association (ECA) chaired by Quatari Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and boss of the French club Paris Saint-Germain is concerned about the well-being of its players in a context where the health situation with COVID- 19 is deteriorating; informs the Politudenews website.
"The Council also expressed its deep concerns about the safety and well-being of the players ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations and the upcoming international windows in early 2022, particularly in light of the worsening public health situation and the serious challenges faced during the recent international windows. The Board of Directors has agreed to urgently engage with FIFA to ensure that all necessary precautions are in place to protect players and club interests as the health situation continues to deteriorate alarmingly," they said in a statement at a meeting held in Paris on 2 December 2021. For the time being, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has not yet decided on its strategy put in place for the protection of players.
