The Ministry of Water and Energy is developing a plan to increase the share of alternative energy to 25% by 2035.
According to the World Bank, hydropower in Cameroon officially accounts for more than 60% of the energy mix, compared to barely 1% for solar, wind and biomass, renewable energy sources with many opportunities.
It is in this sense that Cameroon is working on the implementation of its Renewable Energy Master Plan. "In collaboration with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the Ministry of Water and Energy has started in 2021, the development of the Renewable Energy Master Plan which will be a guide for the planning of renewable energies and the achievement of the objective of 25% of the share of renewable energies in the electricity mix by 2035", informs the Minister of Water and Energy. The said project is currently in the data collection phase, from training to the use of "Message" and "Splat" software, we learn from Invest in Cameroon.
