Road construction sites in the North-West region are abandoned. To date, this region tormented by the violence of separatist groups is one of the most isolated in the country. "It should be noted that for five years, a cumulative amount of about 179.136 billion FCFA has been mobilized by the government for road projects in the Northwest. To date, 44% of the network's linear is covered by active contracts for work that is not being carried out; the reasons are known. Several companies have abandoned the construction sites or studies; others did not even mobilize. " said the Minister of Public Works (Mintp), Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, at the Bougna site.

This sum has been mobilized by several institutions including the public investment budget, the road fund and technical and financial partners. "In 2016, 10 contracts could not be executed on 700 km of roads for about 38 billion. In 2018 and 2019, 18 contracts were awarded over 158.21 km, for about 6 billion FCFA; in 2020 and 2021, 14 contracts over 155.5 km," we learn.

According to the Mintp, the North-West region has a road network of 10,504.85 km including 495.09 km of national road links, 793.87 km of regional roads and 9,215.89 km of communal roads. 48.26% of national road sections are paved, 9.3% of regional roads are paved and 13.1% of municipal roads are paved.
