The project was the subject of a financing agreement on December 15 in Yaoundé between the World Bank Group and the Minister of Economy, Planning and Spatial Planning (Minepat).

The Electricity Interconnection Project (RIS/RIN) of Cameroon and between Cameroon and Chad (PIRECT) will cost 178 billion CFA francs for its implementation. A financing agreement was signed on December 15 between the World Bank's Director of Operations for Cameroon, Abdoulaye Seck, and the Minister of Economy, Planning and Spatial Planning (Minepat), Alamine Ousmane Mey.

The Cameroon and Chad Electricity Grid Interconnection Project (PIRECT) consists of taking the electrical energy that will be produced by the Nachtigal dam, still under construction in the Centre region, and driving it over more than 1300 km to reach the Chadian city of Bongor. "Thus, Nachtigal will be connected to Houro Oussoa near Ngaoundéré for 514km. Ngaoundéré connected to Garoua on 250km. The city of Maroua linked to Kousseri for 191.9km and Maroua — Yagoua 100km," explained the Minepat. It also informs "of the construction of a 225kV line of 15.2 km between Kousseri and Gassi in Chad, a 225 kV line simple dull, single beam of 20 km between Yagoua and Bongor including 13.8 km in Cameroon and 7.2 km in Chad".

Thus, thanks to the PIRECT project, 540,000 people will have access to electricity. From its first year of operation it will be able to inject 522 GWH of electrical energy in the northern part of the country, eventually up to 1800 GWH per year.
