An individual was arrested in possession of the scales of this endangered species in this locality
of the Central Region.

The departmental delegation of Forests and Wildlife of Haute-Sanaga, in collaboration with the gendarmerie, seized 86 kg of pangolin scale in Nkoteng, commune of the department of Haute-Sanaga, Centre region.

An important and rare seizure because of the size of the scales of the animal. "The scales seized are those of giant pangolin, a rather rare fact, because usually during operations, the seizures of pangolin scales are made up of scales of the three species of pangolins that the country shelters. This time, all the scales came from the giant pangolin, a very rare species that is more threatened with extinction than the other two," said The Last Great Ape Organisation (Laga), a wildlife law enforcement agency.
informs Lebledparle.

According to Cameroon's Forest and Wildlife Law, trade in any form of pangolin scales is illegal. It sentences anyone convicted of murder or trafficking in fully protected wildlife to three years' imprisonment and/or a fine of ten million CFA francs.
