After 48 hours of captivity, Nsoh leaders and notables arrested by separatists in the North-West region were released. This is linked to the crisis in NOSO.
All bark and no bite! Nsoh chiefs and dignitaries in the Mezam department of the North-West region, abducted by Anglophone separatists nearly two days ago, have regained their freedom. They had been kidnapped by fighters in favor of the country's secession. They were returning from Yaoundé for a meeting convened by the Fon des Nsoh, informs CamerounWeb. After 48 hours of captivity, lls were released. But it was not unconditional.
"Less than 4 hours spent in Ambazonianjails, they have just been released after promising never to set foot in Yaoundé again," Nzui Mantowrote on his Facebook page.
It should be noted that on December 12, the traditional chief of Babanki, Fon Sheteh Nelson, was kidnapped by separatist fighters. Since then, he has been kept in an undisclosed location. No ransom for the moment, has been requested.
Origin of the conflict
The conflict in NOSO (North-West and South-West regions) has threatened Cameroon's balance for several years. From a simple social demand, then carried by the lawyers of the Common Law, the conflict has engulfed the English-speaking area. Economic activity is still practically at a standstill.
However, it is in one of its cities that one of the groups of the next Africa Cup of Nations will take place. The competition will start on January 9 at six venues in Cameroon. The move of the mascot of the competition certainly presages what will be that of the delegations. It will be militarization to the extreme.
Boko-Haram in the far north, Separatists in NOSO, Rebels in the east, and COVID_19 for everything complicated… nothing will be easy for the government that refuses to sit on the same table as the fighters.
