The lawyer at the Cameroon Bar describes as unjustified the five-year prison sentence of MRC activists handed down by the Bonanjo Court of First Instance, as part of the march organized on September 20, 2020.

Several activists of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC) were sentenced to five years in prison last week by the Bonanjo Court of First Instance in Douala, as part of the repressed protests of September 22, 2020. According to lawyer Mustapha Ngouana, the sentence imposed on CRM supporters does not fit the law. Indeed, "The Cameroonian penal code in its article 231 has provided for the punishment that is imposed on people who have participated in a prohibited demonstration. The maximum penalty in this case is six months' imprisonment. I very much regret the attitude of those who made this decision." he said yesterday on the program Droit de réponse broadcast on the Equinoxe channel.

The lawyer at the Cameroon Bar wonders about the seriousness of the facts that are accused of the "walkers" of September 20, 2020. "I wonder by what legal alchemy it has been shown that the people who walked with their bare hands, who did not break the way in Mbenbis, who did not block the tracks as in Akom2 or Kribi, still managed to be sentenced to five years in prison. This unprecedented, unjust and unjustified rigor that has fallen on the MRC militants should also be able to apply to the CPDM supporters who have done worse." he was indignant.

For Mustapha Nguouana, an activist of the Social Democratic Front (SDF), the regime in place is trying to take the opposite of the will of Maurice Kamto who, "indicated the wish to see his imprisoned activists spend the holidays in their various homes. Unfortunately, the shepherd's response to the shepherdess, it was felt that it was absolutely necessary to prove him the opposite."
