The Minister of Water and Energy (Minee) assessed the progress of Natchigal's work at the end of November 2021.
The construction of the Natchigal hydroelectric power plant is halfway through. During a visit to the site on December 20, the Minister of Water and Energy (Minee), Gaston Eloundou Essomba, estimated the overall progress rate of the work at 51.7%.
Although hampered by factors related to the coronavirus pandemic and repeated strikes by workers, "We are delighted that the work on the energy transmission lot to Yaoundé has been completed. Delivered at the end of November 2021, the progress rates are: 52% on the civil engineering lot; 48.2% on electromechanical lot 1; 99.8% on the transmission line lot; 86.6% on the lot cited of exploitation, "said the Minee.
The Natchigal hydroelectric power plant under construction on the Sanaga River (located 65 km from Yaoundé) will produce more than 2,900 GWh/year MW. Jointly designed by the Cameroonian government, EDF International (Electricité de France) and the IFC (International Finance Corporation), the hydroelectric project will be the largest electricity generation infrastructure in the country.
