The company that sells overgiar fish has expressed its desire to expand its activities in Cameroon. Its leaders were received in audience on November 29 at the Ministry of Commerce.

The company Abran Congelados specialized in the field of frozen foods wants to settle in Cameroon. The fish marketing sector could therefore receive a new operator. This is at least what emerges from the audience granted by the Minister of Commerce (Mincommerce), Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, to Jorge Batista, CEO of structure, we learn from Eco Matin. "We are considering the installation of an industrial fish processing unit in Cameroon with which we share a common history," said Jorge Batista.

The reasons for his desire to settle in Cameroon

The Pourtuganese firm justifies the choice of Cameroon by "its political stability, its strategic position in Central Africa". It is already looking to the future. "We are aiming for some perspectives: the possibilities of selling overgiar fish, the identification of places of sale, and production. We want to be part of the industrial fabric," adds Jorge Batista.

Indeed, the hearing of November 29, 2021, was intended to solicit the support of the government, particularly in terms of assembly.

The presence of this new entity in the fish sector would also be perceived as a confirmation of the liberalization of the fish sector, as indicated by Mincommerce. "The fish market in Cameroon is not a monopoly, it is for lack of actors. The market needs new partners. Look at the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries. Import licensing has not been a problem since liberalization…", said the Minister of Commerce.

So far, Congelcam dominates the entire marketing chain of frozen and fresh fish in Cameroon. Its market share is estimated at 80%. It also imports, distributes, and retails. These are figures taken from statistics from the Ministry of Commerce.
