Operation "Stop Illicit Trade", abbreviated as "Halcomi" initiated by Cameroonian customs officers collected 8 billion illicit goods in January and September 2021. This figure was revealed by Prime Minister Joseph Dion Nguté on November 26, 2021, during the presentation of the government's Economic, Financial, Social and Cultural Program for the 2022 fiscal year. Last year, Halcomi seized goods worth a total of 10 billion CFA francs.
Indeed, in order to fight more effectively against illicit trade, which causes the State and companies to lose about 200 billion CFA francs each year, according to official estimates, the customs administration has launched Operation Halcomi in recent years on the national territory. According to the Directorate General of Customs, 2500 seizures were affected between 2019 and 2020 as part of Operation Halcomi. In general, the largest seizures are made at the borders with Nigeria, particularly in the northern part of the country, or in the southern region, bordering Equatorial Guinea.
