In an interview with Jeune Afrique, Anicet Ekane, president of the African Movement for New Independence and Democracy (Manidem), strongly denounced a “fraudulent operation” aimed at removing Maurice Kamto from the presidential race.
Despite the temporary nature of the Electoral Council’s decision, Anicet Ekane remains outraged. He claims to have solid evidence and announces his intention to appeal to the Constitutional Council to challenge this decision.
“Maurice Kamto and Manidem are victims of scandalous manipulation. We have observed flagrant irregularities. Until midnight on the last day for submitting candidacies, the website of the Ministry of Territorial Administration still listed my name as president of Manidem. But ten minutes later, another name appeared. The next day, Paul Atanga Nji, Minister of Territorial Administration, claimed that the website had been hacked. This excuse is obviously clumsy,” he told Jeune Afrique.

Anicet Ekane insists that this operation was premeditated, claiming to have concrete evidence, including audio recordings.
“We have damning evidence, including recordings related to what we call ‘Operation Yebga’. These audio recordings clearly reveal the preparations for a plot to invalidate several candidacies, including that of Maurice Kamto. We hear someone explaining the sums received, the stages of the plan, and even anticipating the results we are seeing today: the simultaneous rejection of two candidacies. These elements prove political orchestration with the complicity of the authorities,” he explained.

Among the candidacies validated by Elecam are those of Paul Biya, Bello Bouba Maïgari, and Issa Tchiroma Bakary, but Maurice Kamto’s has been rejected.
