If it were the presidential election, the single ballot would have been rejected, Elecam and the Constitutional Court would have gone on the move to steal Samuel's victory.
Then, Samuel Eto'o would be thrown in prison and accused of attempted insurrection, gathering and revolution.
"Political scientists made in Cameroon" would have gone up on TV sets to insult Eto'o fans, calling them Taliban, inviting them to respect the institutions.
To return to the news, I made two posts to congratulate Samuel Eto'o following his brilliant victory as president of Fecafoot. I think that as a professional sportsman who has lived in environments where people are serious and rigorous, he can bring a lot to Cameroonian football that does not belong to any political party.
That said, there are always lessons to be learned from adventures like the one that has just led Mr. Samuel Eto'o Fils to the head of the Cameroonian football federation. And the first of these lessons is Samuel Eto'o who must draw it himself.
It is that if Bombo Njoya had rejected a credible electoral system in order to defraud like the regime that Eto'o supports, he, Samuel Eto'o, would never be president of Fecafoot even with the favors of the majority of voters. He became the new president of fecafoot only because the electoral system that governed yesterday's elections makes alternation at the head of fecafoot possible.
This is why many Cameroonians have not understood that he supports a regime that, through fraud and repression, makes alternation impossible at the head of state of Cameroon. Many Cameroonians are really up against this choice to support a regime that represses freedoms, fraud in elections and repeatedly violates human rights before our eyes.
Of course Samuel has the right to support the candidate of his choice as required by the rules of democracy.Except that Samuel Eto'o is not just anyone for Cameroonians. For hundreds of thousands of Cameroonians, he is a role model. That is, it has the power to influence millions of people, to act on their behavior. And this is where the problems begin.
Does Samuel Eto'o really want to influence thousands of Cameroonians in the sense of accepting and reproducing at their level the cheating and violence embodied by the autocratic regime of Yaounde, or on the contrary does he want to influence these thousands of people in the direction of defending the values that advance humanity? I am thinking in particular of the defence of justice, which does not accept electoral fraud as practised by the Yaoundé regime.
You understand that Samuel's support for an autocratic regime that cheats in elections and violates human rights does not pose a legal problem. Because he is free to vote or support whomever he wants. However, the problem that his support for the Yaoundé regime pauses is ethical or moral. It is the fact of supporting a regime that cheats in everything, that violates human rights, that has never done anything in the face of the many ritual crimes against children in Cameroon and that allows tribalism to flourish in the public space, for example.
If only for these reasons, Samuel should have distanced himself from the power of Yaoundé if he was not discreet … Especially since among the victims of this regime, Samuel Eto'o's own fans are counted in large numbers.
Most of the world's great stars put their aura at the service of defending the values that advance humanity: justice, democracy, respect for human rights. It is in this capacity that Samuel Eto'o committed himself in 2017 as UNICEF Ambassador to act for children so that < leur voix soit entendue et que leurs droits soient respectés. >> How does he explain his support for a regime that does not lift a finger when many children are sacrificed in ritual crimes in his own country, or when thousands of children live in exile in Nigeria because of the NOSO war?
Let us understand each other well. I have nothing against the election of Samuel Eto'o to fecafoot. On the contrary, I think he can bring a lot to Cameroonian football. I was probably among the first people to congratulate him on his election yesterday. And this in two successive posts that you can consult on this page. And besides, I will continue to wish him every success at the head of fecafoot because I am not a hateful person.
My problem with Samuel Eto'o lies in the defense of values. I did not understand that he supports a fraudulent regime that represses freedoms and usually violates human rights in Cameroon. I had to tell him.
I will always be a passionate admirer of the great footballer Samuel Eto'o Fils. But never samuel Eto'o who supports a violent autocratic regime.
