The Minister of Housing and Urban Development (Minhdu), issued a statement on December 20 to denounce the phenomenon in this suburb of Douala.
"It came back to me that the social housing of Mbanga Bakoko in Douala is subject to rentals and subletting to the public, which is moreover at prohibitive prices," wrote the Minister of Housing and Urban Development (Minhdu), Célestine Ketcha Courtès, in an official statement dated December 20.
According to the Minhdu, the specifications signed by each buyer formally prohibit the rental or subletting of their apartment. To limit this practice, the minister in charge of housing announces reprisals. "I have just prescribed to my competent services an investigation, in order to identify the ins and outs of these practices, and to take sanctions in accordance with the regulations in force," says Célestine Ketcha Courtès.
The phenomenon of subletting and arrears have caused the Cameroon real estate company (SIC) successive loss-making results in recent years: -4.4 billion FCFA in 2016; -3.6 billion in 2017; -4.05 billion in 2018.
