This is what the government is aiming for from the beginning of next year thanks to funding from the World Bank.
A new program to connect 163,000 households to the Eneo Cameroon dealership will be launched by the Cameroonian government in partnership with the World Bank at the beginning of 2022. According to Invest in Cameroon, which relayed this information, the mechanism called "revolving fund" will consist in pre-financing access to electricity for disadvantaged households but also fighting fraud on electrical installations.
According to the Ministry of Water and Energy, these households that must be selected by the government to be connected to the electricity grid will then have to repay this pre-financing over a period of seven years. According to the supplier Eneo, 30% of the energy distributed in Cameroon is absorbed by unconventional networks and irregular practices. This proportion represents for the sector, a loss estimated at 60 billion FCFA per year.
