Families have until December 29 to recover their deceased, the prefect announced.
The morgues of some hospitals in Douala lack space. Many bodies have been abandoned there since December 28, 2020. In view of this situation, the prefect of the department of Wouri, Benjamin Mboutou, summons the families to come and recover their deceased. They have until December 29 to mobilize. Otherwise, the remains will be buried in mass graves.
The phenomenon of abandonment of remains in the morgues of health facilities is common. Last January, 119 bodies were announced abandoned in the morgue of the central hospital of Yaoundé, the oldest of which had been deposited in 2017. This situation prevented several families from considering deceased family members staying there.
