In a report released yesterday Wednesday, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimates that at least 44 people have lost their lives in intercommunal clashes.
The death toll is rising in the Far North region. The bloody intercommunal clashes between the Choa Arabs and the Mousgoums/Massa left many dead. In its new report released yesterday (22 December), the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimates that 44 people have died in the conflict.
"Since December 5, 2021, an intercommunal conflict has broken out in the district of Logone Birni and has spread from December 8 in the rest of the department of Logone and Chari and in the departments of Mayo-Danay and Diamaré. This violence has caused the death of at least 44 people and injured a hundred, as well as numerous material damages as well as fires of shops, houses and markets, resulting in significant displacement of populations, "wrote OCHA.
A government mission visited the Far North region from 15 to 16 December. The delegation, led by the Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji, visited the commune of Kousséri in the department of Logone and Chari, the scene of violence between the tribes, in order to find ways of reconciliation.
